For Walvoil a journey into space with Project RED

Young people, space, initiative, vision, future, these are the key words of the collaboration that Walvoil has activated with Project Red, a project born in 2019 by a group of students of the Department of Science and Methods of Engineering (DISMI - Unimore) Reggio Emilia - Italy, fans of robotics and aerospace.
There are now more than 60 students engaged in Project RED and coming from DISMI, the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences (DSCG - Unimore) of Modena and Management Engineering of Reggio Emilia.

The main activity of the Team, supported by funding from DISMI and industrial partners through the supply of components, is to design and build a prototype rover for extraterrestrial exploration with which to compete at the European Rover Challenge, to be held from 15 to 17 September 2023 in Kielce, Poland.
It is an electric autonomous vehicle with robotic arm, just like any vehicle operating off-road (off-highway); we could say almost similar to an excavator.

How does Walvoil support this collaboration?
By funding the electronic control unit, the 'brain' that will govern the rover expected to compete with those of dozens of other European and North American students.

An exciting challenge that engages the participating students in multidisciplinary activities and puts them in direct contact with the world of work with a visionary project.

As Fabio Marasi - President and CEO of Walvoil stated, 'Working on a multidisciplinary and large-scale project like Project RED, offers students the opportunity to extend their knowledge in the fields of mechanical design, electronic and control, but also the ability to exercise essential transversal skills in the world of work, such as teamwork, collaboration and the ability to manage complex projects. Walvoil cannot miss to be present in these contexts. And we hope that other companies in the area are willing to do the same'.
