The first batch of cigarette butts has been collected from all Walvoil sites in Reggio Emilia and Bologna provinces.
Thanks to our collaboration with Re-Cig, over the past few months, at Walvoil's six Italian sites, 40 Smoker Points have been installed with the aim of collecting cigarette butts and giving them a new lease of life.
Re-Cig is an innovative start-up that collects and recycles cigarette filters, transforming them into everyday objects. The company works to promote responsible waste management.
Millions of cigarette butts contribute to the pollution of seas and rivers, and the aim is to limit this damage. A single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 1,000 litres of water, damaging aquatic ecosystems.
At Re-Cig's facilities, the filters are separated, treated and transformed to extract cellulose acetate, which is then used to produce zippers, buttons, eyeglass frames and other everyday objects.
Together with Re-Cig, Walvoil intends to promote a culture based on awareness and responsibility for our impact on the environment.
Curious to know what will be created?
Thank you to all our colleagues at Walvoil for helping to make this intervention as effective as possible.
